Seon, Switzerland | Mammut continues to scale its recycled LOOPINSULATION platform with the launch of LOOPINSULATION Active: a new insulation technology made from industrial rope production offcuts and recycled polyester, designed to reduce material waste and support lower CO2 impact while delivering the performance required in the mountains.

Every year, high-quality rope offcuts are generated during industrial production. Instead of treating this material as waste, Mammut gives it a second life as functional insulation. Combined with recycled polyester (rPET), LOOPINSULATION Active transforms surplus material into an adaptive insulation structure engineered for high-output mountain sports.

Warm when still. Breathable when moving.

Designed with an accordion-like structure that regulates heat, LOOPINSULATION Active responds to changing levels of activity: trapping warmth when you stop, and releasing excess heat and moisture as you move. The result is insulation that regulates your microclimate in real time, from intense ascents to exposed ridgelines.Like all LOOPINSULATION technologies, it is built on circular material innovation: keeping existing materials in use for longer, reducing dependency on virgin resources, and turning Mammut’s rope-making heritage into a tangible step toward lower-impact alpine performance.

From waste to warmth - with lower impact

We’ve been ropemakers since 1862. Today, we take that expertise further with Mammut LOOPINSULATION by transforming industrial rope production offcuts into high-performance insulation.

The process gives unused rope fibers a second life and helps avoid the need for newly produced insulation fibers. In 2025, Mammut repurposed 13.4 tons of industrial rope waste through this approach. By combining recycled rope fibers with recycled polyester, Mammut reduces waste, keeps valuable materials in circulation, and supports CO2 savings compared with conventional insulation approaches based on virgin materials.

Lightweight, breathable and reliable even in wet conditions, LOOPINSULATION delivers dependable warmth across changing mountain environments, showing that recycled materials can meet the functional expectations of modern mountain sports.

How LOOPINSULATION is made

LOOPINSULATION is created through a mechanical recycling process that keeps materials in use while maintaining performance:

  1. Collection: Industrial rope offcuts are collected from production partners.
  2. Untwisting: The ropes are untwisted and brushed into individual fibers.
  3. Shredding: Fibers are mechanically shredded and felted into insulation. Without added chemicals, glues or water.
  4. Blending: The rope fibers are combined with recycled polyester from PET bottles.
  5. Final Composition: The insulation consists of 50% recycled rope fibers and 50% recycled polyester.
  6. End Products: The material is used as padding and cluster fill across Mammut products.

This process demonstrates Mammut’s commitment to reducing waste, keeping materials in circulation, and lowering the footprint of insulation without compromising the warmth, breathability and reliability required for mountain sports.
